Blackford County, located in East Central Indiana is comprised of two primary cities incorporated in the early and mid 1800s. Hartford City, the county seat, and Montpelier, its nearby neighbor, were products of the growth experienced during the discovery of natural gas and oil. Since 1930, the population of the area has grown at a moderate rate with a good balance in manufacturing and agricultural production.
